“Without uncertainty and the unknown, life is just the stale repetition of outworn memories. You become the victim of the past, your tormentor today is your self left over from yesterday.”
Los Angeles could be called the city of uncertainty, with our day jobs and our willingness to create on spec, our trunks full of hope and headshots. We are a town of dreamers and seekers, and we laugh in the face of uncertainty… except for those moments around 3am when the anxiety kicks in and all the rhetorical questions about what are we even DOING here. There are moments that our brains want to pick apart our intentions with and endless barrage of hows and whys. And this is why we practice. We go to our meditation classes and we sit for a while and then we walk back out into the beautiful, palm tree-lined abyss of the unknown. Our parents maybe don’t get it, and sometimes neither do we, but we forge on because we know that faith is enough to get us excited about this one moment, and this one moment is where we live.
Whether our art is business or leisure, we keep showing up for it each day because we suspect what Deepak says might be true, “When you experience uncertainty, you are on the right path.”
